| CHHATTISGARH INSTITUTE OF FORESTRY RESEARCH & EXTENTION |
With the objective of conservation and development of forests of the state, Forest Research
Institute will be established very soon in Raipur. On the occasion of World Forestry Day
(21st march, 2006) , foundation stone for the establishment of State Forest Research
Institute has
been laid down by the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Government of Chhattisgarh
in Baronda area of
Raipur.
Building design has been
finalized and the
proposed construction
work will be started soon
by Chhattisgarh Housing Board. |

II. FORESTRY RESEARCH & EXTENSION IN CHHATTISGARH
Newly created Chhattisgarh State has 44% forests of its geographical area. To provide technical facilities for promotion and encouraging foresry in private sector three Research and Extension Divisions have been established in the State. These centers are executing important job of quality seed and seedling production, collection, storage and distribution besides other works.
High-tech Nurseries have been established to produce quality seedlings in these Research & Extension Divisions. Quality seed is an important aspect for production of quality seedlings. To achieve the objective of production of quality seeds, Seed Production Areas of important species viz Teak, Eucalyptus, Khamer, Aonla, Saja, Sisam, Bija, Dhawada etc which have more demand in private sector have been developed in 514.76 ha. in natural forests under these Research & Extension Divisions. However, quality seeds can be obtained from seed orchards. Accordingly, Seedling Seed Orchards in 193 ha. and Clonal Seed Orchards in 184.5 ha. have been developed for important species. One tissue culture lab has been established at Raipur and two labs at Bilaspur and Jagdalpur are being established for the production of genetically superior planting stock of important and difficult species, from grant of 12th finance commision Tissue culture lab Godi, Raipur has been established from Rs. 15.44 lakh sanctioned as a grant in the year 2005 -06. For tissue culture lab, Jagdalpur Rs. 15.30 was received in December 2007 and work is progress. For tissue culture lab Bilaspur an amount of Rs. 15.20 Lakhs has been provided in the year 2007 - 08. |

1. EXTENSION AND TRAINING |
|
Van Mahotsav 2007:- In the year 2007, Van Mahotsav was celebrated in various Forest Divisions in presence of local Representatives, Hon. Members of Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha, Hon M.L.As, Adhyakshya Jila Panchayats & Students of schools. The Departmental Officers were present. In these Van Mahotsav programs it was tried to publicize tree planting drive and generate awareness. |
Forest Research Centres:- There are three Research & Extension Divisions i. e - Raipur, Bilaspur & Jagdalpur where DFO, SDO, Van Vistar Adhikari, Asstt. Van Vistar Adhikari & Van Sevaks are posted.
Training Programme:- A training programme on Plant Tissue Culture technique by scientists of SFRI Jabalpur was held in October 2007 for 10 days, in which Van Vistar Adhikari, Sahayak Van Vistar Adhikari, Van Sevaks, Technical Assistants and Lab Assistants partcipated.
Chhattisgarh Vaniki Darpan:- The 4th issue of the six monthly forestry magazine was released by H. E, the Governor of Chhattisgarh on Feb 9th, 2008. |

Bamboo Poster:
A poster on Bamboo with technical information was released by Honorable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on 30 .01. 2008
Posters have been distributed to all the Honorable MLA's and MP's, President Zila Panchyats, Forest Management Committees, Gram Panchayats.
Bamboo Brochures: A Brochure on Bamboo was released by His Excellencey, the Governor of Chhattisgarh Shri E. S. L. Narsimhan on 08 .02. 2008.
Brochure was distributed to all the Honorable MLA's and MP's President Zila Panchyats, Forest Management Committees, Gram Panchayats. |
World Forestry Day: World Forestry Day was celebrated at Raipur on 21.3.2008. A Seminar was organized on this Day in presence of officers of forest department. Shri R.N. Mishra Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wild life) Chhattisgarh inaugurated the Seminar. Hon. Forest Minister Chhattisgarh was the chief guest for valedictory function. Discussions on Forest Management, Conservation and Protection was done in the Seminar, Shri Tapesh Jha, Conservator of Forests Sarguja and Shri Arun Pandey Divisional Forest Officer, Korba gave presentation on Sal Forests and Bamboo Forests respectively. Shri Mudit Kuamr Singh Chief Conservator of Forests gave presentation on Teak Nursery technique. A Poster was released and distributed to all forest management committees, Gram Panchayats and local people depicting the importance of World Forestry Day.
On the occasion a "departmental Telephone Directory" was released by Hon. Forest Minister Govt. of Chhattisgarh. |

2. MoU to Establish Van Vigyan Kendra
Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education has taken a decison to establish atleast one "Van Vigyan Kendra" in each State of the country after consultation with the concerned State to acquaint general public with forestry.
According to the decisions taken by Director General ICFRE, Dehradun each "Van Vigyan Kendra" has to conduct following tasks:-

Two training programmes will be organized at "Van Vigyan Kendra" to train rural people in forestry works each year.

Literature of forestry species suitable to the State will be provided in "Van Vigyan Kendra" so that people may be made available with knowledge of plantation techniques of these species for income generation.

Various scientific systems & techniques for preparation of plants will be displayed at these Centers so that people may get information about them.

Necessary arrangements and equipments will be made available at Center to train people.
In consequence of this, an MoU was signed between DFO, Research & Extension Division, Raipur and Director TFRI, Jabalpur at Raipur on 29 .03. 2008. According to MoU item no 1,3,4 would be conducted by DFO, Research & Extension Division, Raipur and item no. 2 will be conducted by Director TFRI, Jabalpur.
The Scheme is of five years. In future seprate MoU will be signed every year for work in Van Vigyan Kendra. |
